A Local Photographer’s Guide for planning your Orange County Wedding
Planning a wedding in Orange County is a dream for many couples. With its breathtaking coastal views, iconic venues, sunny weather, and vibrant wedding scene, Orange County offers everything you need for a magical celebration. As a local Orange County wedding photographer who has captured countless love stories, I’m sharing my top tips to help you plan a seamless and unforgettable wedding day here.
Whether you’re a Southern California native or planning a destination wedding, these insider tips will help you navigate everything from permits to the best seasons, and even vendor recommendations.

Choose the Right Time of Year
Orange County boasts over 275 days of sunshine a year, making it a popular destination for weddings year-round. However, there are seasonal considerations:
Spring (March–May): Pleasant temperatures and blooming landscapes make this a popular season. Book venues and vendors early
Summer (June–August): Great for beach weddings but can get hot inland. Also the busiest season, so expect higher prices and limited availability
Fall (September–November): Often considered the best time for weddings here. The weather is warm, crowds have thinned, and the light is dreamy for your wedding photos
Winter (December–February): Quieter season with lower prices. Coastal areas can be windy or rainy, but indoor venues shine this time of year
Photographer’s Tip: For golden hour portraits, fall gives you the softest, most romantic light without the intense heat.
Secure the Necessary Permits (Especially for Outdoor Locations)
If you’re planning to hold your ceremony or take photos at beaches, parks, or public spaces, you may need a special event permit. Each city or location has its own rules:
Laguna Beach: Requires permits for most public beach weddings and professional photo sessions.
Crystal Cove State Park: Offers stunning views, but you must coordinate with the park’s events team and secure permits early.
Mission San Juan Capistrano: A breathtaking photo location with strict photography guidelines and fees.
Book Popular Orange County Venues Early
Some venues book 12–18 months in advance, especially those with ocean views. Here are a few local favorites:
Coastal & Beach Venues:
The Waterfront Hilton: Luxurious cliffside setting.
Ole Hanson Beach Club: Spanish-style architecture with ocean views.
Surf & Sand Resort: Steps from the beach, perfect for intimate weddings.
